Types of Rosin

There’s a lot of products labeled rosin - the starting material greatly affects the quality (and cost) of concentrates, especially rosin.

We produce Live Rosin, meaning we start with whole plant fresh frozen material. You can read more about WPFF in our last blog entry, but the short of it is that our material is harvested and frozen immediately to keep terpenes and cannabinoids as fresh (“live”) as possible.

Cured Rosin starts with material that is dry cured instead of frozen after harvest. The taste, color, flavor and consistency will all be affected in the curing process, and typically produces a lower quality product. An example of this is flower rosin: while the tech started with a hair straightener with cured buds, the science has progressed.

Sift Rosin also pops up in the market from time to time - it's typically made from kief collected from sifting nugs or trim. The keif gets sifted through fine mesh screens and pressed, creating a solid dabbable concentrate from material that otherwise isn’t as good to smoke. Some kief rosin isn’t screened and just pressed, which drops quality and cost down again, but provides a budget product for people looking to try solventless products without a large price tag.

We label everything as live rosin to avoid confusion, but if you’re not sure what starting material was used in your rosin it never hurts to ask the processor.
